How it works

  1. Enter the item sold price. Add buyer-paid shipping if you charge it.
  2. Choose a category preset (or Custom %). Optionally add Promoted Listings %.
  3. Read estimated total fees, take-home, and the line-item breakdown. Numbers update as you type.

What fees does eBay charge?

For most US sellers, the big number is the final value fee: a category percentage of the total sale (item + shipping the buyer pays), plus a small per-order fee ($0.30 when the sale is $10 or less, $0.40 above that in common cases).

Our presets (last updated with the calculator rates) put many “most categories” sales without a Store around 13.6%; Basic Store and higher often sit lower (about 12.7%). Media, jewelry, and some collectibles differ. High-price items can drop to a lower % above a threshold — this calculator uses a flat % for clarity and flags sales over $7,500.

Listing (insertion) fees are usually free within a monthly allotment. Optional ads like Promoted Listings are separate. For the live table, see eBay’s official selling fees help.

FAQ

What does the eBay final value fee cover?

On eBay.com (US), it’s a percentage of the total sale amount — usually item price plus shipping the buyer pays. Managed Payments folds payment processing into that fee for most US sellers. A small per-order fee is added in many categories.

Are insertion (listing) fees free?

Most individual sellers get a monthly allotment of free auction-style and fixed-price listings. Extra listings and some upgrades still cost money. This calculator focuses on sold-item fees, not listing allotments.

Does shipping charged to the buyer affect fees?

Yes in most cases. Final value fee usually includes buyer-paid shipping and handling. Enter it here so the estimate tracks closer to your invoice.

Why don’t my results match my eBay invoice exactly?

Store level, category tiers, high-value thresholds, international programs, tax handling, credits, and promotions all move the real number. Use this for planning; confirm on eBay’s fee help pages when you need exact figures.

What about Promoted Listings?

Promoted Listings General uses an ad rate you choose on eligible sold items. Put that % in the optional field. It’s separate from the final value fee.

Do international eBay sites use the same rates?

No. UK, Canada, and other sites publish their own tables. This tool uses simplified US-style percentages. Use Custom % if you already know your rate.

Is this site affiliated with eBay?

No. Independent estimate tool only. eBay is a trademark of eBay Inc. Rates change — verify on official help pages.

Example: $100 item + $12 shipping

Suppose you sell a $100 item and charge the buyer $12 shipping. Total sale = $112. At the 13.6% “most categories” preset:

  • Final value fee ≈ $15.23 (13.6% of $112)
  • Per-order fee = $0.40 (sale over $10)
  • Estimated total fees ≈ $15.63
  • Estimated take-home ≈ $96.37 before your own shipping cost or ads

Change the numbers in the calculator to match your listing. If you run Promoted Listings, add that % so the take-home drops accordingly.
